The Ludlow Garage was thumping Saturday night to the funked out vibes of Cincinnati’s own, Freekbass and The Bump Assembly playing a tribute set of songs made famous by Parliament-Funkadelic. With members of Foxy Shazam, Turkuaz, Bootsy’s Rubber Band, and George Clinton rounding out the sound, Freekbass Does P-Funk felt like a family reunion. They were even joined by fellow cosmic traveler Forealism for P-Funk’s chart topper Flash Light.

“Growing up in Cincinnati, funk is part of our DNA” Freekbass proclaimed. There were stories of Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, and obvious admiration and gratitude for the man holding the mic, Gary “Mudbone” Cooper. With such a vibrant music history, we’re lucky to have such ambassadors.
